Sledding is a great pastime for kids or adults, but carrying and storing sleds can prove difficult because of their bulkiness. To take all the stress out of sledding and offer better portability and storage options, the designers at Maarno have created the Folding Sled!
Snow sleds are a common household item for people who live in mountainous areas or areas that get a lot of snow in the winter, and can standard family sleds can be found at Wal-Mart or Dick’s Sporting Goods. A lot of people still have the wooden sled from their childhood, but most families have a plastic sled.
Racing sleds, like the Snow Blazer, are built differently than family sleds and are meant to go much faster. The Folding Sled is built with skids somewhere between a family and racing sled, so that you can stop easily if needed but still have more control than a family sled.
Its most amazing feature is, obviously, its ability to fold flat. This means that you can easily take it with you on a bus, across town, in your car, or even on your bike. You can also store it without taking up too much room and without it falling over all the time.
The Maarno designers refuse to sacrifice quality for functionality. This is why they use local, hand-picked ash wood that is steam-bent at a family-run sled manufacturer in Switzerland, Graf Schlitten. The seat is made of recyclable engineering plastic (HDPE).
Currently on Kickstarter, visit their campaign page to see a video of how the sled works and where it is made. The sleds will be ready to ship by winter season of 2015, just in time for sledding weather!
